    What's Interesting About This Concert

Many composers have been inspired by nature. In particular, with the rise of programmatic music in the nineteenth century, some were drawn to musically depict the natural world. For others, like Beethoven in his Pastoral Symphony, it was about the musical representation of feelings that arose from being outdoors. For other composers the natural world was not just a place of beauty but also a place of danger, evil, myth and legend. Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain is a depiction of evil spirits gone wild and eventually driven back by the first light of the sun at dawn. This is a concert that highlights the incredible creativity of composers and their reactions to the natural world. We hope you enjoy this spectacular and colourful music.
