FORMER MUSIC DIRECTORS

Mel Waters, Former Musical Director (2016)

Emeritus Professor Mel Waters was the musical director of Orchestra Geelong for 2016. The orchestra members greatly enjoyed working with Mel for the three concerts in the 2016 series as well as performing for the first time for Geelong Seniors' Week. Mel will be missed but we thank him for his enthusiasm and contribution and wish him all the best with his move to NSW.

Allister Cox, Former Musical Director (2005 - 2014)

Allister was appointed the Orchestra’s conductor in 2005 and held this position for 10 years. In that time, the Orchestra performed more than 130 different musical items, from the most delicate of arias to the grandeur of large-scale works including Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Gounod’s Messe Solennelle.

The resignation of Allister marked a significant change in the running and direction of the orchestra. Allister has made a remarkable contribution to music-making in Geelong and to the development of the community orchestra and we thank him for this significant achievement and dedication.

We acknowledge the Wadawurrung People as the Traditional Owners of the Land, Waterways and Skies. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are part of our Greater Geelong community today.
