Welcome to our new series of posts introducing the members of Orchestra Geelong!
Who better to start with than our conductor, Hayden Dinse!
Hayden Dinse was born and raised in Geelong and has been part of the Geelong music scene since he was 16. Upon graduating from Christian College, Hayden studied French horn and Music Education at the University of Melbourne. During his university studies, Hayden was fortunate to have studied with Richard Gill and subsequently with Graham Abbott. Upon completing a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Teaching (Honours), Hayden continued studying conducting with Graham as well as Peter Bandy and Professor John Hopkins.
Hayden has conducted a range of ensembles, including the Glen Eira Brass Band, Oakleigh City Brass Band, and the Geelong Youth Orchestra. He also music directed ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ for Lyric Theatre and ‘Oliver’ for Queenscliff Lighthouse Theatre, as well as several school shows, including ‘Iolanthe’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Additionally, Hayden has played the French horn with the Geelong Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra (Brisbane), as well as in the pit for a range of musicals.
Hayden is currently the Music Coordinator of Geelong Lutheran College, Armstrong Creek.
Orchestra Geelong members love having Hayden as their conductor- he is kind, inspiring, and everyone always leaves rehearsal with a smile on their face!
In his words:
"Orchestra Geelong gives musicians in our community a space to come together in friendship to celebrate the gift that is "music"."
